MAGNETOMETER (Most important indicator for what happens right now)

Ivalo magnetometer – Real time situation, from Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) data through Tromso Geophysical Observatory:

The magnetometer graph shows the activity from last 24 hours, the time in UTC on the X-axis. Mind the Y-axis scale, usually if the scale there (in red) is at magnitude 1 or more (on any side, plus or minus), there is strong aurora activity at that time. This is especially true if it is the first high activity for the last 24 hours. Be ready to get out to see within minutes, otherwise you easily miss the best show as a typical strong Aurora show only lasts 10-15 minutes.
